NGK has world-wide recognition for supplying high-quality spark plugs, but as you'll soon learn, they sell plenty more than just spark plugs. Their aim is to showcase and educate the public on their diverse product range to the market. Additionally, they sought to develop a robust tool that enables both individuals and mechanics to effortlessly search for parts and ensure compatibility with their vehicles.
NGK is predominantly recognized for its spark plugs. Although this was a positive achievement, it would only be known for providing spark plugs which would be an issue.
Users often visited the website primarily for spark plug information, unaware that NGK offers more than just this product. Additionally, they visited the site to find parts and determine vehicle compatibility.
Our high level goals were to:
1. Revamp the website to align with NGK's identity of being an innovative and leading company
2. Raise awareness and provide reliable information about the different products NGK offer
3. Improve on the existing 'Part Finder' feature to help users make the right choice
There were two types of users: individuals and mechanics looking to learn more about a product or find a particular part to fit their vehicle.
I worked with a senior designer to redesign the website in a way that would match NGK's brand identity. To improve the menu navigation and the 'Part Finder' feature.
The main purpose for users to visit the NGK website was to learn more about spark plugs. Since the company wanted to showcase all of their products, a seperate section in the menu navigation and on the homepage would provide product awareness.
The menu navigation displayed an image alongside the product name. This approach aimed to assist individuals without a mechanical background who might not be familiar with the appearance of the part. By including visuals, it helped prevent users from selecting the wrong part, thereby reducing errors.
For both mechanics and individuals working on vehicles, the task of finding the right parts and ensuring they fit correctly can be quite time-consuming. To streamline the process and minimize the risk of ordering incorrect parts, NGK offers a feature where users can search for their vehicle type and instantly access the image, name, and part number of the compatible parts.
